Every book counts!

Every year I try to impress on people the difference even a fiver can make to a charity. Its hard to get across that its the little things that can end up being the most important. Last year we used the money raised to buy, among other things, a rocking chair for a hundred euro for an autistic care centre. We got a message back in January that they had put it straight into use on Christmas Eve to calm a boy who can build his frustration into rage. Instead his carer rocked him in our chair and saved everyone a long evening. Sometimes its something as simple as a 2 euro box of paints that can help a kid make a break through or just forget a condition for a while.

The photobook is one of those ways of raising charitable money that I really like. Its a win for everyone. You get a presentation quality book of some of the best photos of the best photographers in Ireland and for a fraction of what you would pay. We get enough profit/donation to buy more toys and entertainment equipment.

We hope you enjoy your book, the kids enjoy the proceeds very much!

Merry Xmas to you all,
Tom Murphy

Activities surrounding the booklaunch.

There are a few events planned to go with the launch on 26/11.

Firstly – SinisterDexter has organized a photowalk to proceed the actual launch. From now onwards, this already epic walk shall be referered to as the “Hop, Skip & Click” photowalk!  Details are as following:

This is being run in conjunction with the Boards Photobook Launch (which takes place in DCC that night, all are welcome).
This walk is open to everyone with a camera.

  • You DON’T have to be going to the book launch.
  • You DON’T have to have a photo in the book.
  • You DON’T need to know what all the settings on your camera do (hell I don’t know half of mine, I just organise walks)
  • You DON’T have to start at the start, just text me when you are in the city/nearby

Start Time: 1pm
Start Point: Top of Grafton St / Entrance to St. Stephens Green
Going to:
(through St. Stephens Green) Cuffe St
- St. Patrick’s Cathedral (daylight)
- Christchurch
- Temple Bar (street market on Sat) (stop in Porterhouse Bar Temple Bar for Lunch/dinner/rest)
- Central Bank
- Trinity St
- Dame Lane (should be getting dark by now 4:30ish)
- behind Dublin Castle (Chester Beatty Library)
- TBC
- St. Patricks Cathedral (night)
- stumble back to Against the Grain (6ish)

Against the Grain is a small bit down the street from the DCC.
The launch is at 8pm.

  • If you have any suggestions for deviations then please message here or PM me on Boards.
  • As said before – Everybody with a camera is welcome. You might want a Tripod for the dark/night part (but then you got to carry it throughout the day)
  • For people new to this ‘Photowalk’ idea – it is always free (well mine always are)
  • Tell me here that you will be along at some point so I can PM you my number, and PLEASE pm me back yours.

See you there!

The next little plan is the print exchange which is a very simple concept to raise further funding for Santa Strike Force. Here’s how it works: you bring a 5×7 print with you and donate €5 to our charity. In exchang, you bring home a print by one of your fellow photographers. It’s a win-win situation! (They may become famous ya know!)

And lastly, there will be a good auld raffle on the evening! One raffle ticket will set you back €2, but our recession-buster-pack will bring you 3 tickets for a fiver. A selection of the prizes as a little teaser: photography book, a printed canvas, digital photoframe, whisky, a spa voucher and many more!

All hands on deck!

We are now slowly approaching the last month before we officially launch the 4th edition of the Boards Photo Book. The 2011 press release can be found here.

To ensure a smooth running of the launch evening, we are looking for a few extra hands to help out with the practical running of the night. If you are interested in helping out, a tread had been created on Boards.

Money, book orders – Launch!

Money collection

Well – it’s the nasty part really isn’t it – collecting monies! If you’re in the book, you must now pay for your copy as per the conditions of inclusion – don’t worry, you won’t be sorry ;-) If you would like to preorder a book – get in touch with us now, that way you’ll have a book from the main batch to be delivered. Heck, why order 1 – why not order a few!

The book is looking great – we have filled all of the pages and their 175gsm goodness will soon be covered by your images. Time to get excited..

Book Launch

Roll up roll up! The Boards Photo Book will be launching itself at the masses on November 26th at 8pm in Dublin Camera Club. You better clear a window folks, it’s going to be a little bit good.

Watch this space for updates!

Time to design!

The deadline has just passed for images to be submitted and with a few outstanding, we are getting stuck in to the book design. If you haven’t gotten your image in but want to be involved – please let us know asap – we may be able to include you. No promises though!

4 Days to Submit!

With the Printer on board (Shakespeare) and the deadline set (October 9th) for submissions, it’s all systems go.

We reached our 100 person limit and these people can now submit their image to the book, and like last year, there is no chance to change your image that you submit because it will cause headaches getting the book sorted out. We require your photo to be sent in the highest res possible, with your username, real name and a 1 liner about the shot. You may also include a url of your website/blog etc. if you wish.

The email address to send them to is boardsbook@gmail.com

The timeframe for everything is as follows:

  • Photo subs – no later than Sunday night 9th October
  • Payment – no later than Sunday 16th Oct
  • Book Launch – Mid November, date and venue tba.

Any questions – send us an email!

Tick..tock..tick..

Well folks, it’s getting very close – this is just a little reminder that you need to start thinking about which image you are going to include in this years photobook - which is going to be really fantastic. Start reviewing now – don’t leave it to the last minute and miss out!

If you have any questions – get in touch, we’re about to finalise the printer for the book – any last minute suggestions are welcome!
